JESSICA CORMANY

•Lower Elementary
Support Teacher

My love for teaching began when I was a Jamba Juice intern, teaching nutrition lessons for local elementary students while studying Nutrition Science and Biology at Cal Poly. After graduation, I stayed at Cal Poly to complete my secondary teaching credential for science. I taught biology in the bay area for 4.5 years before moving back to the central coast when our son Jameson was born.

I discovered Montessori education when we enrolled my daughter, Katie, and my son, Jameson, here at CHMS in the primary and kindergarten classes. I was immediately drawn to the respectful style of teaching and the way Montessori education allows children to follow their interests and encourages their independence. As soon as our youngest daughter, Charlotte, was old enough we enrolled her in the toddler program. I was so interested in finding out more about what and how my children were learning that I enrolled in some primary classes at the Montessori World Educational Institute in 2019.

When Covid shut down the world I was pushed, like many parents, into the world of homeschooling. For the next year, I homeschooled my three children and received mentorship through Guidepost Montessori. We joyfully returned to our beloved CHMS in 2021 and I was fortunate enough to get to help in Lower Elementary from time to time with small projects. Last year, I became a support teacher in Bill's class and I completed Lower Elementary training with North American Montessori Center in the spring. I feel grateful to be a part of this special place and love learning from the amazing staff here at CHMS as well as the students themselves.

In my spare time I can be found cheering for my kids at gymnastics, gardening, sewing, or spending time with my family and friends.
